With the number of Irish Red and White Setters beginning to expand in England, especially in the south, it became obvious that there was nothing to help the newcomer understand their dog or to introduce them to field training. The idea for a Southern Society for Irish Red and White Setters came from several like minded breeders and was achieved in 1993, it currently has over 150 members. The Southern Society for Irish Red and White Setters was born and over the years has gone from strength to strength with a current membership of over 150. We have a regular Newsletter twice a year to keep us all in touch, regular training classes from April to August culminating in an Assessment Day in September. Each year we arrange a talk of interest to dog owners, a Judges Teach In and a fund raising event. We support Open shows in the south with special prizes and our own Silver Spoon for BOB to encourage entries. With effect from November 2003 the Society gained registration with the Kennel Club and now aims to support the breed in every way it can and to do even more for the breed and our members. It is the aim of the Society to provide a community for people who own or have an interest in the Irish Red and White Setter. We want to help both new and experienced owners enjoy their dogs to the full whether it be in the field, the show ring or just as a delightful companion and with this in mind we welcome members to enjoy our Society and all it stands for. |
